Beginner Guide to Strap-On Harnesses

Selecting your first strap on dildo is one of the challenges you face on the road to your first time getting pegged. It may not be the biggest hurdle, but there’s still a lot of information to digest. I’ve written the following guide to help anyone else looking to try pegging for the first time educate themselves on the tools of the trade.

An Introduction to Strap-Ons

Strap on dildos and harnesses come in a few different varieties. Here’s the breakdown.

Underwear Harness

The most famous brand, or at least the most branded brand, is rodeoH.

Harness-Free Strap on Dildo (a.k.a. Internal Strap On)

A particularly unique variation on the strap on is the dildo that doesn’t need a harness. The shape of these dildos allow a woman to insert the “handle” or “vaj-le” inside her vagina. The rest of the dildo remains outside her and due to the design, sticks out like a strap on dildo.

Having not progressed with my wife to trying this type, I can’t speak to how much kegel strength is required to hold this or how easily it stays in place but my wife didn’t like the look of it, preferring something she knows would work.

Also, watching a few x-rated videos, it seems they need a bit more babysitting than a regular strap on dildo (as described below).

Still, they look fun.

Strap Harness

The strap on is probably the most common. It’s also probably what most people imagine when they talk about a strap on dildo because it actually straps on.

But with a strap harness, there are two options to consider that determine what type of dildo you can use. The O-ring and the vac-u-lock system.

The O-Ring Harness

The oring The

To use the o-ring system, you pull the ring out enough so that you can get the dildo in behind is, slide the dildo through the ring then pull the straps to bring the ring back into place. On lesser or custom harnesses, the straps are sown. Otherwise, as shown above, the part of the strap that holds the dildo will have buttons that let you take the o-ring out and exchange it for a different sized ring (that will fit a different sized dildo).

The dildo you use with this system must have the flared base as shown, so it doesn’t slip out.

The Vac-U-Lock Harness

To use the vac-u-lock system you simply slide the dildo over the plug. The dildo will have a hollow in the base so that it fits over the plug. You can also use “vac-u-lock powder” to make it easier to fit the dildo. The dildo stays in place thanks to the power of vacuum.

Any dildo labeled as vac-u-lock compatible will work with this system.

Note: There are harnesses, such as this one, that come with attachments for both vac-u-lock and flared base dildos. (In fact, if I had of seen that one, I might have bought that harness as my first strap on.)

I hope this introduction to strap on harnesses has helped but if you have any questions, feel free to ask with a comment. Also, I’d love to know which system you have or prefer – please let me know with a comment.
